In 2023, the MicroScope platform reached the milestone of 20 years of annotations and comparative analyses of microbial genomes. To celebrate its anniversary, MicroScope united its user community at Genopole on 26 September. Six speakers shared their experiences and a LABGeM team presented the latest developments in pangenomics.

Created in 2001 by Genoscope’s Claudine Médigue thanks to an Atige grant from Genopole and originally named MaGe, the platform provided its first annotations in 2003. It continued to evolve through the years, becoming an essential tool for microbiologists and taking the name MicroScope in 2007. The platform performs genome and metagenome analyses and furnishes services for gene expression studies and variants research.

With more than 6,700 users, 65% of which are international, MicroScope has contributed to the analysis of more than 25,000 microbial genomes. In 2023, with support from Genopole and the SATURNE call for proposals, MicroScope increased its data storage capacity by more than 30%.
