The two Welcome Sessions gave Genopole’s latest arrivals the chance to learn about the Shaker, a program that finds innovative ideas still in their infancy and raises them into new start-ups.

The Shaker program is an initiation during which the laureates discover human resources and a scientific ecosystem there to help them overcome the vagaries of starting out and consolidate their futures as bio-entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurship isn’t inherent, it’s learned.

During the six months of accompaniment, the laureate projects profit from the ecosystem of Genopole, an internationally-renowned biocluster where researchers and entrepreneurs work together, benefiting from state of the art technological platforms and work premises designed for biotech research.

Thereto, 2023 marked a new phase in the development of the Shaker, with the ten laureates of the 12th and 13th classes welcomed to Genopole. The program has thus succeeded in its goal of turning projects into start-ups and the people behind those projects into entrepreneurs.

Since 2017, the Shaker has accompanied 67 innovative projects. Of those, 57% became companies, and of those new companies, 61% continued their growth in the Gene.iO program (ex-Booster).

THE 10 LAUREATES OF SHAKER 2023

IN HEALTH

BIO’Clock

BIO’Clock aims to use gene editing to develop a therapeutic to correct a DNA methylation profile correlated to age-related pathologies such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders and cardiovascular diseases, among others.

PPCT Therapeutics

PPCT Therapeutics is developing an immunotherapy able to control the growth of tumors that have escaped the immune response to them.

Hormone’ia

Hormone’ia is forwarding a fertility assistant for couples.

Numi (ex-MUMilk)

Numi (ex-MUMilk) seeks to produce breast milk in vitro to address breast feeding difficulties and surpass the limits of conventional formulas.

IN THE BIOECONOMY

Blue2

Blue2 is developing a simple, adaptable, and profitable solution for absorbing industrial CO2 emissions with microalgae.

Décybèle

Décybèle is looking to stimulate protein synthesis using sound frequencies.

Mars

Mars is bringing innovation to water and soil remediation. Their project is built essentially upon biostructures capable of efficiently capturing and treating pollutants while respecting the environment.

Oléo’Tech

Oléo’Tech is developing a “zero deforestation” alternative to palm oil via microbial fermentation using oleaginous yeast.

Phare Away Production

Phare Away Production is advancing a project to produce essential oils and their compounds using a plant-based biosynthesis process.

So Sweet

So Sweet is using plant proteins taken from West-African fruits to produce an innovative alterative to sugar with a much higher sweetening capacity than sugar itself. The project aims to contribute to sustainable food production and better health.
