Held yearly on 25 April, DNA Day salutes the discovery of DNA and the completion of the sequence for the human genome. The 2023 event, organized by DNA Script, celebrated the 70th anniversary of the discovery of DNA. This DNA Day was also a chance to meet the life sciences community and imagine the future of genomics. Indeed, it was in 1953 that James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, Rosalind Franklin and their colleagues published the first descriptions of the double-helix structure in Nature, thus enabling revolutionary breakthroughs in humanity’s knowledge of genetic codes and protein synthesis. Fifty years later, in April 2003, the Human Genome Project drew to a close, with the completion of the first-ever nearly entire sequence of the human genome. DNAScript’s 2023 DNA Day celebration, held in Paris and in San Francisco, united renowned life sciences entities, including New England Biolabs and Genopole. The future of genomics is only getting started.
