A biofoundry
at Genopole:

structuring the Île-de-France scientific and industrial community

Genopole’s biofoundry project is an initiative within Île-de-France’s BioConvergence for Health domain of major interest and will become a member of the region’s distributed biofoundry network. Called Biofoundry Paris, this network unites five prestigious entities: Sorbonne University, INRAe, Institut Curie, Paris Cité University and Genopole.

The project team spent 2023 structuring and sequencing the deployment of the biofoundry at Genopole. The first phase was enacted, specifically the development of the shared-use platform, “High-Throughput Screening and Processes Optimization for Fermentation.” The first wave of equipment for this platform will be installed in the second half of 2024 and made available to laboratories and businesses looking to explore and demonstrate the preindustrial pertinence of different strains or strain-substrate couples. Operated by Genopole and located within the Genopole Enterprises incubator (Essonne CCI), the Biofoundry Paris program will be officially launched end-of-year 2024.

That program’s main objective is to structure the Île-de-France scientific and industrial community with the aim of enabling the development of molecular engineering in living systems and biomanufacturing at the pilot scale.
